‘Impasto’ by Philip Compton Farquharson

We are delighted to be hosting an exhibition by Olney-based artist, Philip Compton Farquharson.  Philip comes from an Art Historical background, having studied Art History at University up to postgraduate level (focussing on ethnographic material in the Andes, Amazonia and Oceania).  These studies, combined with his love of travel, have influenced his paintings, both in subject-matter and style.  The paintings are from countries he has visited, and he tries to encapsulate an aura, an impression of the place. Weston Underwood Art Group : 10 Years On

ISE (Inspiration for Stitch and Expression) was formed several years ago by like minded artists who enjoy creating diverse work with stitch as the common thread. On display are abstract, realistic and figurative art and fashion accessories using a wide variety of media: wire, paper, fabric (new, distressed and recycled) and found objects: these are hand and machine stitched, or felted to fashion art inspired by both the natural world and the built environment.

Finders Keepers – Tales in Textiles! by Connie Flynn

In June 2015 Connie Flynn was the Artist in Residence at Sumburgh Lighthouse Shetland. During the residency she researched the social history aspect of the keepers and their families who stayed, worked and lived at the lighthouse. She recorded these experiences of the past, the quotes and stories as a reference in her sketchbook. Connie then transferred them onto cloth, constructing textile wall hangings, each one decorated with different surface effects and hand stitched techniques. The tea stained fabric and…
