Exhibition: ‘Night and Day – Costumes from our Collections’
A chance to see some of our fragile lace and other costume treasures before they go back into storage.
‘Night and Day’ brings together some of our most iconic costumes with treasures from the lace collection. Some, like Cowper’s coat, may be familiar to you, but you won’t have seen it in front of his portrait before. Hannah Bull’s wonderful silk dress worn for her wedding in 1768 is back in the Georgian Life Room for two months. Some items, like the 18th century doeskin breeches and the lace boudoir cap, have never been on display before. This display is on for a short time only, as some of the costumes are now so fragile that they need to be preserved in costume boxes.
Our exhibition is on display throughout the historic rooms until the end of May 2024.
Usual adult admission applies to see the museum and gardens.
