COWPER REVALUATED: Celebratory book launch and poetry reading
To mark the end of this year’s season of events, we welcome Cumbrian-based poet and literary critic Neil Curry to talk about his new book on Cowper and sign copies. His talk begins at 2.30pm in the Museum, to be followed by a glass of wine and readings from Neil’s latest book of poetry, Some Letters Never Sent, published last year by Enitharmon Press.
Cowper admirers will appreciate Neil’s reassessment of Cowper as a more complex figure than the timid country gentleman so often depicted. His new book shows how ground-breaking Cowper’s poetry was and urges us to see why Wordsworth and Coleridge held him in such high esteem.
Neil’s readings of his own poetry are much sought after. The afternoon promises to be a rare treat for booklovers and museum supporters.
There is no charge for this event but donations, as ever, will be welcome. To be sure of a seat, email firstname.lastname@example.org and arrive by 2.15pm latest. Usual admission fees apply to visit the museum and gardens.
