Looking Out, Looking In: Ann Edwards
Wednesday, November 2, 2016 @ 10:30 am - Thursday, December 1, 2016 @ 4:30 pm
During November, The Three Hares Gallery is hosting an exhibition by Ann Edwards entitled ‘Looking Out, Looking In’.
Ann lives in a small village in Bedfordshire, with her husband and dog. 20 years ago she trained as a counsellor, and for a long time she has been working part time as a counsellor. Most of her therapeutic work is with adolescents using a variety of creative techniques. However, long before life as a counsellor Ann did a Fine Art degree at the University or Reading. Her ‘roots’ are firmly embedded in art and now making pictures has become a more prominent and important part of her life again.
The themes of her work have been and are usually landscapes and flowers. When Ann starts working on a particular subject, she often produces several paintings of that same subject. She finds there is something about particular landscapes, or arrangements of flowers that make her want to paint them. The paintings become a search for an understanding of what she is responding to. The challenge of the painting is to express that in paint, and as a picture, as her exhibition with us titled ‘Looking Out, Looking In’ demonstrates.
Ann mostly uses oil paints but has recently started experimenting with gouache and watercolour. As well as painting she likes to create pictures using collage and to draw with charcoal and colour. One of her next goals is to learn the art of making monotypes, a kind of printmaking that involves making a print from a painting.
