“SPECIAL SUNDAY OPENING: Ever wondered how delicate lace is made with bobbins? Come and see our Olney lacemakers together with their friends from St Albans lacemakers, at the museum on Sunday 25th November. This is our first ever event to commemorate the patron saint of lacemakers – St Catherine. Also know as Catterntide, this day is celebrated by lacemakers who enjoy eating traditional ‘Cattern Cakes’ in honour of St Catherine.  The ingredients are bread dough, egg, sugar, lard or butter, and Caraway seeds.  (Have a go baking them yourself at home!).

Our room venue will be extra special too. The first event to be held in our new Heritage Lottery Funded ‘Georgian Life Room’.  On display will be beautiful examples of lace and the 18th century items they used in this local lacemaking industry”. Lace bobbins to commemorate St Catherine’s Day will be on sale in our gift shop. If you would like to bring your lace pillow and join in too, please contact Paula (House Manager) 01234 711516 for more information.

Usual admission applies:  £6 adult annual pass/ children under 16 free
