Finders Keepers – Tales in Textiles! by Connie Flynn
Tuesday, February 14, 2017 @ 10:30 am - Saturday, February 25, 2017 @ 4:30 pm
In June 2015 Connie Flynn was the Artist in Residence at Sumburgh Lighthouse Shetland. During the residency she researched the social history aspect of the keepers and their families who stayed, worked and lived at the lighthouse. She recorded these experiences of the past, the quotes and stories as a reference in her sketchbook. Connie then transferred them onto cloth, constructing textile wall hangings, each one decorated with different surface effects and hand stitched techniques. The tea stained fabric and frayed edges of the cloth is left, to give a feeling of worn cloth reflecting the weathered or windy environment at Sumburgh Head.
Connie will be exhibiting her Finders Keepers Tales in Textiles! during February. Her exhibition opens on 14th February and runs until 25th February. This exhibition has been touring, Shetland Museum (April 2016) and Rayleigh Windmill, Essex (Sept/Oct 2016) see https://www.facebook.com/rayleighwindmill
