Exhibition of Watercolours by Colin Bee NDD
November 1 @ 10:30 am - November 30 @ 4:30 pm
Colin studied Furniture and Interior Design at High Wycombe in the 1960’s. He worked in London with a large architectural practice for 20 years designing commercial interiors. During this time he was commissioned to prepare perspective pen and ink drawings of new buildings for the purpose of presentation to potential clients.
He retired at the age of 65 but continued to sketch and used watercolours for the first time after being inspired by the architecture and seascapes along the Amalfi coast of Italy. His architectural background helped with drawing in perspective, which is now expressed in the detail of most of his paintings. Over a few years he has grown more confident with his use of watercolour as a medium and likes to use vibrant colours where the subject matter allows.
Most of Colin’s paintings are taken from photographs and are a process of technical perspective drawings initially sketched to scale in pencil and then highlighted with a very fine drafting pen on stretched watercolour paper. Watercolour is then applied in several washes to give depth of colour and detail.
Colin enjoys tackling new challenges in his paintings and this can be seen from the wide variety of subject matter he selects. All his paintings, without exception are created for the pleasure that drawing and painting gives him in his retirement.
