Carla Markland – Realistic Imaginary: Trompe l’oeil
Tuesday, March 3, 2015 @ 10:30 am - Saturday, March 28, 2015 @ 4:30 pm
Carla Markland spent her formative years in Milan and studied painting and history of art at the Academy of Fine Art (Brera).
Carla developed a passion for large mural paintings, frescoes and trompe l’oeil and has carried out many large painted schemes around the world.
Later, her career moved into the conservation of historic painted works in and around Italy and particularly the Veneto region where the richly decorated villas of Palladio provided a renewed interest in the fresco technique and trompe l’oeil work.
Many of Carla’s paintings reference the style and technique of the historic methods by using material such as natural pigments and resins, tempera, watercolour, acrylic and using techniques such as pouncing to produce the final work.
By taking everyday objects, she is able to produce colourful and appealing work that deceives the eye, much like the historic schemes that she has conserved in Italy.
Since 2007, Carla has lived in Emberton with her husband Fred and daughter Lily.
