‘A Mysterious Way’ – Lance Pierson

“Cowper is a forgotten treasure of English literature.”

William Cowper was the leading English poet of the fourth-quarter of the 18th century and an important Christian poet. Best known for such poems as; John Gilpin, The Task, The Poplar Field, On the loss of the Royal George, The Negro’s Complaint and for the hymn ‘God moves in a mysterious way’.

Join us for a day of literary immersion with Lance Pierson, professional poetry performer, on Saturday 25th April at 2.15pm to launch his new CD, ‘A Mysterious Way’, featuring 22 of Cowper’s poems and hymns.

Discover Cowper’s comic sense of humour through his poetry and writings with a live performance, hear about Lance’s love and admiration for Cowper’s work and how the idea for recording ‘A Mysterious Way’ came about.

Our museum will also be celebrating 115 years since it opened in 1900.

Seated spaces are limited so please let us know if you wish to reserve a place.

Cost: £5 per adult

(includes 12 months entry to Museum and Garden / children under 16 years free).
