A Burst of Colour by Mitchel
Wednesday, July 1, 2015 @ 10:30 am - Saturday, July 25, 2015 @ 4:30 pm
The Three Hares Gallery is delighted to be hosting the first exhibition by Michelle Whitehead (Mitchel). Here she tells us how she began on her artistic journey and how the creative process works for her:
Hi, my name is Michelle. I paint under the name Mitchel with was a nickname my uncle gave me when I was young and it has stuck!
About ten years ago, my partner suggested I should paint. As a child and teenager I always sketched. I sketched pictures of people and animals. I first started to paint landscapes and objects; this quickly changed into abstract and then my passion for painting began!
Before I put a brush to canvas, I have an idea in my mind. This can grow and develop over weeks and months. I select the canvas size, then my colours and the brushes or knives I’m going to use. Then the fun begins…
Te painting is started and finished in one session; these sessions can take as long as 36 hours. If I concluded the art in two sessions, the original idea may change. I like to contain all the energy into one burst of complete inspiration.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some of you out there will love to see a finely painted landscape with immaculate detail, others love to get lost in an abstract where every time you see a piece something different can be seen. You ponder and spend time trying to work out what the artist was trying to express or what they were thinking or feeling at the time the piece was created. Most importantly, you can get lost within what you see and what you want to see. It then becomes part of your mind and your interpretation of the art. When talking to people about the paintings they have purchased from me, no two people will see the same. This then brings the art into a form of literature.
