Amazing Georgians! Family Fun Day in Olney

Georgian Day

Saturday July 15 @ 10:30 am – 4:30 pm

 Relive Georgian life in Olney

It’s that time of year again!  The Cowper & Newton Museum opens its doors to show everyone the setting for our story – relive the Georgian era with us!

All day:  Refreshments, Dressing up, Splat the Rat, Battledore, Crafts, Activities and a Trail for the children.  Enjoy a Georgian photo opportunity.

Morning:  Guided tours with letter and poetry readings in the museum.  See our ‘Georgian Dancers of Amazing Grace’ perform in the Market Place outside the museum.

Afternoon:  Georgian tea party begins!  Homemade refreshments in the Courtyard.   Relax drinking tea to remember the significance of tea in the 18th century when women could only drink it in their homes, but men were allowed to enjoy it in tea houses.  Listen to a fascinating talk about the ‘Language of the Fan’ – have a go at communicating this way yourself! Find out what the ‘Bawdy Georgians’ got up to – most enlightening!  More wonderful performances by our talented ‘Georgian Dancers of Amazing Grace’. Relax… listen to beautiful Ducilmer music played by Caroline Riches.

Do join us in your own period costume to add to the atmosphere …..we look forward to welcoming you.
